The latest round up of news, guidance and resources for care sector colleagues
Great and the good of social care recognised in Queen's Birthday Honours Congratulations to all the amazing health and social care colleagues who have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2021.
The list includes those who have worked throughout the crisis, putting others before themselves - from caring neighbours, frontline and community heroes, to those supporting the UK's recovery.
They include Andy Tilden OBE (l) formerly Director of Operations, Skills for Care, for services to social work, Vic Rayner OBE (m), Chief Executive Officer, National Care Forum for services to social care and Rob Mitchell MBE (r), Adult Principal Social Worker, Bradford Council, for services to the social work profession.
They, and many other care sector colleagues, have been recognised for their kindness, inspiration and leadership during the toughest of years.
Guidance update: testing for adult social care staff and unpaid carers [Image created by freepik.com] This updated guidance, on how to access twice-weekly COVID-19 testing, applies to anyone working in adult social care in England, who is not part of a regular testing regime. It also applies to unpaid carers.
For more information, sign up for live webinars, which will take you through the testing process. Each webinar includes a live Q&A session with the adult social care team.
Guidance update: visits out of care homes [Image created by freepik.com] This guidance applies to residential care homes, and care home residents of all ages. There is separate guidance for supported living and extra care settings.
The measures described relate to visits where residents leave care home premises. Visits with friends and family, taking place in care home gardens or other outdoor spaces, are set out in our care homes visiting guidance.
Meanwhile, links to COVID-19 guidance from various agencies, including the Department of Health and Social Care, can be found on the Skills for Care website.
First Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care Award revealed! The social care sector continues to be celebrated for its incredible work, as a care worker with 25 years of experience becomes the first recipient of the Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care awards.
Deborah Sturdy presented the award to Camille Leavold (left, next to mum, Stephanie). Camille is co-founder and managing director of Abbots Care, a business she started with her mother and sister in 1995 to care for local NHS patients with learning disabilities.
Thanks to Camille's development and oversight skills, the service now supports almost 1,000 people, cared for at home, and employs 500 care workers. She has continued to offer crucial support to staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Do you know a care colleague who deserves to be recognised for the wonderful work they do? Use these gold and silver nomination forms to make your case.
COVID-19 vaccine webinar clips online You can now download short clips from a recent interactive webinar with Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and Dr Nikita Kanani, Director of Primary Care at NHS England (pictured). In each video, they answer care colleagues' questions about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.
Use these clips across your channels to reassure and inform your colleagues yet to have their first or second doses.
Immigration surcharge reminder Most non-UK nationals need to pay a healthcare surcharge (called the ‘immigration health surcharge’ or IHS) as part of their immigration application.
You may not need to pay, or you may be able to claim a refund, if you’re a health or social care worker eligible for a visa. Click the link below for full details.
